Gas Line Installation and Repair in Las Vegas and Henderson

Gas work is one of those jobs where ‘close enough’ isn’t. A new range, a dryer swap, a backyard barbecue or a fire pit all depend on gas piping that’s sized right, tight, and tested. We install, extend and repair gas lines in homes across the Las Vegas Valley, and every line we work on is tested with a gas pressure gauge and leak-checked before it goes back in service.

Las Vegas Water Experts is a family owned and operated plumbing company based in Henderson. Our small family team does the work ourselves, led by owner Jason Miller, who has more than 24 years of plumbing experience. We’re licensed, bonded and insured, and we answer 24/7. We work on existing homes, not new construction.

If You Smell Gas

Don’t look for the leak yourself. Leave the house, don’t flip switches or start a car in the garage, and call Southwest Gas’s emergency line or 911 from outside. Southwest Gas will make the area safe and shut off service if needed. Once they have, call us to find and repair the leak on your side of the meter. Our {L(‘/services/emergency-service/’,’24/7 emergency service’)} page covers other after-hours problems.

What We Do

New gas lines and extensions

We run new lines for gas ranges, dryers, water heaters, fireplaces, patio heaters, barbecues and fire pits. Outdoor kitchens and fire features are popular backyard projects here, and they need a properly sized line, a shut-off valve and the right outdoor-rated materials. Switching from an electric range or dryer to gas usually means adding a line too.

Appliance hookups

When you replace a gas appliance, the connection matters as much as the appliance. We install a new connector and shut-off valve, add a sediment trap where code calls for one, and leak-test the connection. Old connectors are worth replacing. Some older homes still have uncoated brass flex connectors, a type that has long been flagged as a hazard.

Leak checks and repairs

If you notice a faint gas smell near an appliance, a hissing sound or a gas bill that doesn’t make sense, we test the piping and fittings, find the leak and repair or replace the bad section. Outdoor steel gas pipe can rust where it meets the ground or runs along a wall, and older fittings can loosen over time.

Yellow flexible gas pipe (CSST)

Many valley homes use corrugated stainless steel tubing, a flexible gas line with a yellow jacket. Codes and manufacturers call for it to be bonded to the home’s electrical grounding system. When we work on a CSST system, we check the bonding and tell you if anything is missing.

Who Owns Which Part of the Gas Line

Southwest Gas is the gas utility for the valley. It is responsible for the line up to and including the meter. Everything on the house side of the meter, including the piping to each appliance, belongs to the homeowner. That’s the part a licensed plumber works on.

Permits and Inspections

New gas piping and most gas line repairs need a permit. Depending on your address, that comes from the City of Henderson, the City of Las Vegas Building & Safety department, the City of North Las Vegas or the Clark County Department of Building & Fire Prevention. Unincorporated areas like Spring Valley, Southern Highlands and much of the east side fall under the county. As a licensed contractor, we pull the permits our work requires, and the line is pressure-tested with a gauge and inspected as the permit requires. If you’re in an HOA, check its rules before adding an outdoor gas feature.

When to Call

  • You’re adding a gas range, dryer, fireplace, barbecue, fire pit or patio heater
  • You’re replacing a gas water heater or other gas appliance
  • You smell a faint gas odor near an appliance (if it’s strong, leave and call Southwest Gas or 911 first)
  • Southwest Gas shut off your service and you need the leak found and repaired
  • You have old appliance connectors or rusty outdoor gas pipe

How a Gas Job Works

  1. Plan. We look at where the line needs to go, what appliances it feeds and how much gas they use, so the pipe is sized right.
  2. Permit. We pull the permit from the city or county that covers your address.
  3. Install or repair. We run or repair the piping, add shut-off valves and connect the appliance.
  4. Test. The line is pressure-tested with a gas gauge, connections are leak-checked, and the work is inspected as the permit requires.
  5. Inspect and restore. The work is inspected where required, and if Southwest Gas shut off your service, they restore it after the repair is done.

Gas water heaters are a big part of this work. See our water heater and tankless service page, and our article on water heater flushing in Las Vegas for keeping one healthy. Backyard gas projects come up often in Henderson, Summerlin and Anthem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to add a gas line for a barbecue or fire pit?
Generally yes. New gas piping needs a permit from your city or Clark County, depending on your address. We pull the permits our work requires.

Can you hook up my new gas range or dryer?
Yes. We install a new connector and shut-off valve and leak-test the connection. If there’s no gas line where the appliance goes, we can run one.

Is the gas line from the meter to my house my responsibility?
Yes. Southwest Gas is responsible up to and including the meter. The piping on the house side of the meter is the homeowner’s.

I smell gas faintly by my water heater. What should I do?
If the smell is strong, leave and call Southwest Gas or 911 from outside. If it’s faint and only near one appliance, turn off that appliance’s gas valve if you can do it safely, and call us to test the connection.

Do you do gas lines for new construction?
No. We work on existing homes, including additions, appliance changes and backyard projects.
